Let’s Talk about Something Else, Shall We?
I know last week was a little (okay, a lot) dog heavy around here, and, look, I’m sorry. But you know how it is with exciting life events — they have a tendency to take over your every thought for a few days. (I know you guys haven’t really complained, but I figure that when my own husband is making suggestions about things I can post about besides the dogs, there’s a chance I’m over-doing the dog posts a bit.) I think I’ve gotten it out of my system now and can try to keep the dog posts mostly limited to Sundays and Wednesdays . . . and also next Monday when the Bloggie Doggie winners will be announced (don’t forget to vote!). I think we can all agree to be happy with that, right?
So, what else has been happening lately? Well, there was Valentine’s Day . . . that was last week, right? Tim and I celebrated it in the usual way, staying in and making a delicious dinner. This year’s menu consisted of chicken marsala (many thanks to RA for the recipe!), bruschetta, roasted baby red potatoes, and wine. There was supposed to be salad, but I forgot to tell Tim to buy some. And there was supposed to be dessert, but neither of us really felt like making it so we postponed. And then when I tried to make it last night, most of the strawberries had gone bad and the puff pastry didn’t bake right and it just really did not work out the way it was supposed to.
Yesterday was kind of a bad day overall for Valentine’s foods, actually. Not only was dessert a flop, but the M&Ms I stole from Tim’s stack of (adorable!) second-grader valentines kinda sucked, and I also had a mishap with the last of the chicken marsala leftovers which resulted in me cleaning chicken and mushrooms off of the office break-room floor and then heading to the Taco Bell drive-thru.
Anyway, back to Thursday. We broke away from tradition a little by going out to see a movie. We would have preferred to stay in and have a quiet, romantic evening at home, but Tim was getting paid to see this particular movie on this particular day, so out we went. Of course, this meant we didn’t get to choose the movie. While we really would have liked to see Juno, or even Definitely, Maybe, we instead had the pleasure of watching Step Up 2: The Streets. You’re all jealous, I can tell.
Walking back to the car after the movie, Tim said “Well, that was awful.” I hemmed and hawed a bit before saying “Yeah, it wasn’t great . . .” To which Tim quickly replied, “You liked it, didn’t you?”
And, okay, look. I liked the dancing. Kind of a lot, actually. Sure, the acting was abysmal and the plot was all but non-existent, but good acting and intricate plot lines aren’t really the point of dance movies, are they? At the end of the day, 90% of the movie is dancing, and when the dancing is good, I’m happy.Â
Dinner, a dance movie, and a homemade card with Dwight Schrute on it made for a pretty darn good evening for me. Tim may not have liked the movie, but he did love the tie clip I bought for him, so all-in-all I think we can call this year’s Valentine’s Day a success.

I kind of want to see Step Up2. I love dancing/gymnastics/cheerleading movies. it’s a little strange since I don’t dance/do gymnastics/cheerlead.
A homemade Dwight Schrute card? I need details, please.
Two of my favorite dance movies have come on tv recently, and I’ve never been so thrilled to have my husband away from home so that I could watch Take the Lead and Center Stage without any mocking comments from the peanut gallery!
Aawww what fun Valentine’s Day! I admire people who can dance since I have zero rhythm so I probably would have liked the movie okay too. I really want to see Juno though! And Definitely Maybe!
Yeah, I think I need photo evidence of this Dwight card. AWESOME!
I too love good dancing movies.
We went and saw Enchanted last night and, well, I could have watched that dancing in the park scene all night long.
I’m so proud of you for this non-dog-related post!
I love dance movies…the plots are always lame, but I love to watch the dancing anyway!
i want to see Step Up 2 for some reason. I never saw the first one, but i, too, like good dancing. And the guy is hot. So yeah. I went to go see 27 Dresses yesterday, cause i had the day off (three day weekend, what?). So i went to go see it, and i went alone, cause I am that cool. I have very little problem seeing movies alone, cause I’m all types of independent, and you know, anti-social, and don’t have many friends, but I think that was my first romantic comedy by myself. This was highlighted when i walked in the theater filled with couple and the lights were fully up and the entrance was in front of everyone so everyone kind of saw walk in and then sit down by myself, and i was soaking because a stupid rain shower broke just as I was two blocks away. It might have been the saddest sight you’d ever seen if you were in the theater watching this poor 25 year old single drenched man walking into 27 Dresses alone.
aww, i’m glad you liked the movie even if tim didn’t. do you like “you got served”? i’m just curious.
also, you guys should totally have a v-day redo. puff pastry is very important.
I’d totally watch Step Up 2! I think it looks Oscar-worthy.
Ain’t no shame in watching dance movies. Who cares about the plot or acting when there’s dancing to be done? SRSLY.
