Happy Thanksgiving, you guys!
I was going to write this amazingly eloquent post based on an idea provided by my Aunt Kathy about the history of Thanksgiving in my family, but that was before the triptophan. And the wine. And the 11:00pm. So now you will get a brief, sleepy, slightly drunken summary of what that post was going to be.
So. Thanksgiving in my family. For as long as I can remember, we have spent Thanksgiving away from home. For awhile we went to Estes Park (a little mountain town about 45min from Ft. Collins). Then we went to New Mexico where my aunt, uncle, and cousins from Phoenix would meet us (half-way for everybody) to celebrate being thankful and stuff. Now my parents usually spend the whole week of turkey day in phoenix at my aunt’s house. On years that Tim and i spend thanksgiving with my side of the family, we get to go to Phoenix, too.
The other thing about thanksgiving in my family is the food. my brother and i were picky eaters growing up, and for some unknown reason, we didn’t like turkey. I know. We were crazy. So my parents, being the sensible people they were, decided that instead of putting tons of effort into a fancy turkey dinner when my brother and I would only eat the rolls, decided to start a new family tradition. And that tradition was to make pizza on thanksgiving. Because we all love pizza, and making it ourselves is a fun family activity. And we even used turkey pepperoni so that we’d get our “turkey” fix on the big day. It was good times, and a delicious tradition.
These days, my brother and I both love the turkey feast. But we also love our pizza, so we are sure to make it sometime during the week of thanksgiving, turkey pepperoni and all. Tim’s family has even been nice enough to adopt the thanksgiving pizza tradition when we spend the holiday with them (and even when we don’t, so we hear). So no matter who I am spending the big day with, I am sure to get my pizza fix sometime during thanksgiving week. i love it.
Today was a fantastic thanksgiving. We had a ginormous breakfast, complete with cheesy hashbrown casserole, coffeecake, and mimosas, and then a super delicous turkey feast, with amazing stuffing and green bean casserole, followed by a rousing game of Catch Phrase. No game is quite as hilarious as Catch Phrase when played with a family full of people who have been drinking since breakfast.
We’ll be making pizzas tomorrow night. I can’t wait.
How was Thanksgiving for all of you? Did you have good times, good food, good people? What are your family traditions all about?

i like the idea of having another night during thanksgiving week dedicated to a family event. I always feel like Thanksgiving is a very one day only holiday which is kind of boring. And I like pizza.
I basically have no family traditions for Thanksgiving–we do something a little different each year!
This year, my parents are in the city. We met up with them, went to a bar, went to dinner at a fancy restaurant, then wen t to another bar. It was tons of fun and I was out cold by 10 pm.
We had an awesome time. Sounds like you did, too.
Yes, you are drunk.
We just eat the traditional Thanksgiving dinner, whether it be at my house, my Mom & Dad’s house or in another state. I would love to start a new tradition though, sounds fun.
And it sounds like you had fun too!
